We are establishing an MRC that will be combined with our local CERT teams to respond when activated through the Local Emergency Manager during a disaster that creates a surge in our medical and emergency response resources. The MRC specifically will serve to assist in mass casualty triage, an event that requires a surge capacity of medical resources at our hospital or health department, SNS deployment that would require medical volunteers needed to medicate or vaccinate large populations in short amounts of time, medical or special needs shelter management during evacuations, etc. Key partners in the formation of our Corp will be Public Health, Emergency Mangement, our local HRSA planning group, Long Term Care, Senior Citizens groups or Retired medical professionals, local clinics including Dentists and Vetenarians among others. Regional MRC Awareness training is scheduled at the Cumberland Valley Area Development District, call Betty Calhoun at (606) 864-7391.

Laurel County Medical Reserve Corp
Efforts began in December 2005 by the Laurel County Health Department to organize a Medical Reserve Corp In Laurel County. Although the health department already had a desire for a medical reserve corp, involvement in Hurricane Katrina efforts proved it was a necessity rather than a wish. Currently, the health department is enthusiastically planning recruitment strategies to reach our very qualified medical community. Within the health department, training has begun in techniques to both establish and maintain this very critical group of professionals. If anyone is interested in this endeavor they may call the contact person, Rebecca Feger, at 606-864-5187 for more information.
