Over 230 representatives from business, schools, local government, emergency responder agencies, hospitals and others attended the CUMBERLAND VALLEY AREA “PANDEMIC FLU SUMMIT” which was held on Tuesday, May 02, 2006 at London Community Center in London, KY. The CUMBERLAND VALLEY AREA “PANDEMIC FLU SUMMIT” was sponsored by The Cumberland Valley District Health Department, Laurel County Health Department, Knox County Health Department, Whitley County Health Department, Region 11 HRSA Planning Committee, Cumberland Valley Area Hospitals and the Cumberland Valley Regional Pandemic Coordinating Committee. The Summit follows the Kentucky's Pandemic Readiness and Emergency
Planning Summit held on January 20, 2006 at the Frankfort Convention Center. Governor Ernie Fletcher and U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Deputy Secretary Alex Azar II were joined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Julie Gerberding, Kentucky Commissioner for Public Health Dr. William Hacker and other officials. More than 500 representatives from business, schools, state and local government, emergency responders, hospitals, and others met to discuss local, state and national preparations for an influenza pandemic.
